Transportation

Please review with your child the bus safety rules below. At school we review the safety rules on an ongoing basis and reinforcement at home is also helpful.

The bus driver who is responsible for the safety of the children on the bus has the authority to maintain order and make sure that the transportation rules are respected.

Third Offence: Transportation may be suspended for one to five days and a letter is sent to the parents (to be signed and returned) notifying that transportation may be indefinitely suspended at a fourth offence.
Fourth Offence: A letter (to be signed and returned) is sent to the parents advising them of the indefinite suspension of transportation privileges.

Bus Passes

The Lester B. Pearson School Board Transportation Department has informed us that they are responsible for transporting your youngsters to and from school (within busing zones) using your REGULAR address listed on the registration form.

Please note that bus service is provided to the child’s primary address. Requests to have a child transported to a different address or picked up at a different address must be made to the transportation department of the Lester B. Pearson School Board. In such cases where complementary bussing is accorded, there will be a fee of $125.00 for the school year. If you have any questions regarding special transportation arrangements please do not hesitate to call the school office (Junior Campus 514-798-0777 and Senior Campus 514-798-5556)

In addition to the above, many parents request OCCASIONAL CHANGES IN THE REGULAR BUS ARRANGEMENTS. These types of arrangements are often to allow a child to attend a party at a friend’s house, or to simply play with a friend, etc. Transportation for these types of activities is the responsibility of the parents and the office will not issue bus passes for these activities. Parents are asked to please make arrangements to drive their children to these events.

EMERGENCIES: If for example you must leave your home immediately and will not be able to be at the bus stop or at home to meet your child, please call the school and give us exact details of what instructions you wish to have relayed to your child. We will make sure that your child is informed of the change of instructions for returning home. This is to be used for EMERGENCIES ONLY.

PLEASE REMEMBER:

BUS PASSES OR CHANGES WILL NOT BE ISSUED TO STUDENTS UNLESS A SIGNED NOTE IS RECEIVED FROM THE PARENT GIVING A VALID REASON OR, IN THE CASE OF A LAST MINUTE EMERGENCY, A PHONE CALL HAS BEEN RECEIVED BY THE SCHOOL OFFICE. PLEASE NOTIFY THE DAYCARE AS WELL SHOULD YOUR CHILD NORMALLY ATTEND (Junior Campus - 514-798-1717).

Please note: The Junior Campus is a transfer point, not a bus stop. If you must pick up your senior school student, please do so at the Senior Campus.

Bicycle Rules

At the junior school, bicycle riders must be accompanied by an adult. We have moved the bike rack inside the gate on the parking lot side. At the beginning of the day, please walk your bike inside the gate from the road. At the end of the day, please walk your bike to the road before the buses are given the signal to start moving (usually around 3:45 p.m.) Once the buses start moving out you must wait until all the buses have left the school yard. All bike riders should be wearing bike helmets.

Car Rules

When driving your child to and from school you have some options.

In the morning, you may either park the car in the second parking lot and walk your child to the Kindergarten gates or use the Drop-Off zone. When doing the latter, please do not park your car. A supervisor will be outside to assist your child from the car and make sure they safely enter the Kindergarten playground. It is not safe to park in the Drop-Off zone and allow your child to disembark. It is not permitted to park in the Daycare parking lot, when dropping a child off at daycare between 7:00a.m- 8:45a.m.

After school, you may pick up your child at the Kindergarten playground gate. Please park your car in the second parking lot and walk to the gate. Do not park in the Drop-Off zone or in the No Parking areas of Chanterel Street. Too many cars at this time may create a hazardous situation.

Please note that all these transportation rules are for the safety and security of our students. Nothing is more important than their safety.
